Columbus Italian Festival on a Mobility Scooter: Your Questions Answered
Columbus Italian Festival on a Mobility Scooter: Your Questions Answered
Every fall, Villa Milano on Schrock Road fills up with the smell of fresh pasta, live music, and a crowd that comes back year after year for the Columbus Italian Festival. It's one of the city's longest-running cultural festivals, and like a lot of fall events, it packs a full weekend of food vendors, entertainment, and shopping into a venue that wasn't originally built as a festival ground. If you or someone you're bringing has trouble standing or walking for long stretches, here are the questions we hear most often before festival weekend.
When does it actually happen, and how long should I plan to stay?
The festival is typically held the first weekend of October, running across Friday evening through the weekend. Because dates, hours, and admission details can shift from year to year, the most reliable source is always the festival's own website or Facebook page closer to the date — we'd rather send you there than guess. Once you know the hours, plan on at least two to three hours if you want to see the marketplace, catch a show, and eat without rushing.
What kind of ground will a scooter be covering?
Villa Milano is primarily an indoor banquet and event facility, so a good portion of the festival happens on smooth interior flooring — easy going for any mobility scooter. Festivals like this often extend into outdoor tented areas or parking-lot space as well, which can mean pavement, temporary flooring, or a stretch of grass depending on how that year's layout is set up. A standard scooter manages a mix like this without trouble, but if you know ahead of time that you'll spend most of the day outdoors, mention it when you book so we can talk through which model fits best.
Will it be crowded, and does that change anything?
Yes — Saturday afternoon and evening tend to be the busiest stretch, with Friday evening and Sunday generally calmer. A scooter actually helps more, not less, when things get crowded: it's easier to hold a stable line through a packed room than to be jostled while standing and shuffling forward with the crowd. If tight spacing between vendor tables or seating areas is a concern, arriving earlier in the day gives you more room to maneuver before the aisles fill in.
How do I get a scooter there — deliver it to my home, or meet somewhere?
Most of our Columbus customers have us deliver directly to their home or hotel before the event, so the scooter is charged, set up, and ready to load into a car or wheeled straight from your door. Scheduled delivery like this is free anywhere in our Greater Columbus service area. If your plans call for something different — say, picking up locally instead — just call and we'll figure out what's easiest for your particular trip.
What if I decide at the last minute, the morning of the festival?
We understand plans change, especially around a one-weekend event. Same-day delivery is available for an additional fee when scooters are in stock, so a last-minute decision isn't necessarily a lost cause — but weekend festival dates are also some of our busiest days. If you already suspect you'll want a scooter, booking even a day or two ahead gives you far more certainty than calling that morning.
What does it cost, and is there a deposit?
Our shortest rental runs 2 days at $40/day, which is enough to cover the festival itself plus a delivery day on either side. Longer rentals get cheaper per day — $35/day for 3 to 6 days, and as low as $20/day if you're renting for other plans that week too. There's no deposit and no hidden fees either way; you pay for the days you use.
