How to Plan a Comfortable Visit to the Great Westerville Pumpkin Glow on a Mobility Scooter
How to Plan a Comfortable Visit to the Great Westerville Pumpkin Glow on a Mobility Scooter
Each October, Heritage Park in Westerville turns into a glowing trail of carved jack-o'-lanterns for the Great Westerville Pumpkin Glow — a quarter-mile wooded walk lined with thousands of hand-carved pumpkins arranged into themed scenes, plus food trucks and entertainment along the way. It's one of the more popular fall nights in the northern Columbus suburbs, and it's also a different kind of outing than a daytime fair or an indoor mall: it happens after dark, on a natural trail, with a crowd. Here's how to plan for it if you or someone you're bringing has trouble walking or standing for long stretches.
Step 1: Know what the trail actually is
Unlike a paved festival midway, the Pumpkin Glow route winds through the park's wooded section on natural ground. That's part of the charm — string lights and pumpkins glowing among the trees — but it also means the surface isn't uniform pavement. Expect packed dirt, mulch, and the occasional root or dip, which can be harder to see once the sun goes down. A mobility scooter can generally handle a well-kept park trail, but it's worth calling Westerville Parks & Recreation ahead of time to ask about current conditions, especially if there's been recent rain.
Step 2: Pick the right night for your group
The main event runs October 15–18, 2026, from 6:30–10 PM, and the park also plans a sensory-friendly evening on October 14 from 7–9 PM with lower crowds and reduced sound. If bright lights, loud sound, or a packed trail would make the evening harder for someone in your group — whether due to a sensory sensitivity, a mobility scooter needing more room to maneuver, or just general comfort — the sensory-friendly night or an early slot on a weeknight is worth considering over a Saturday at peak hours.
Step 3: Plan for the dark and the cold
An October evening in central Ohio can turn chilly fast once the sun sets, so bring layers, and consider a lap blanket if you'll be seated on a scooter for a while rather than walking to stay warm. It's also worth choosing a scooter with a working headlight, since the trail itself is intentionally dim to show off the pumpkin displays — visibility for you and for others sharing the path matters more here than at a daytime event.
Step 4: Get your scooter delivered before you head out
Westerville is part of our regular Greater Columbus service area, along with Worthington, Gahanna, and New Albany nearby. Tell us your visit date, and we'll deliver a sanitized, fully charged scooter to your home or hotel ahead of time, with a quick walkthrough on the controls — one less thing to figure out on the night of the event. Scheduled delivery, setup, and pickup are free anywhere in our service area. If your plans come together at the last minute, same-day delivery is available for a $20 fee, subject to availability.
Step 5: Know the cost going in
Ohio rentals start at $40/day for a 2-day rental — enough for the evening plus a day of flexibility on either end — with the per-day rate dropping the longer you rent, down to $20/day for 20-plus days. There's no deposit and no contract, and delivery, setup, and pickup are included at no extra charge for a scheduled delivery.
