Bringing a Mobility Scooter to Lynd's Fruit Farm This Fall: Your Questions Answered

Every fall, Lynd's Fruit Farm in Pataskala turns into one of the busiest weekend destinations in the Columbus area — apple picking, a pumpkin patch, a corn maze, and a market and bakery that draws people back year after year. It's also a big place to cover on foot, with a lot of ground between the parking area, the market, and wherever the picking happens that week. If someone in your group has trouble walking long distances, a few questions come up before you go. Here are the honest answers.

What's the ground actually like out there?

A working fruit farm has a mix of surfaces, and it changes with the season and the weather. The market building, bakery, and the paths right around them tend to be flat and solid — that's where a scooter does its best work. Once you head out toward the orchard rows or the pumpkin patch, you're on natural dirt and grass, which can be fine on a dry day and much softer after rain. If you're planning a visit specifically to use a scooter, going on a dry day and checking in with staff about current conditions when you arrive will save some guesswork.

Will the scooter work for the hayride and the corn maze?

Not for those two specifically, and it's worth knowing that going in rather than being surprised on the day. Hayrides run on a wagon, so you'd transfer off the scooter to ride along, and corn mazes are cut through an open field — there's no scooter-friendly path through one. Where a scooter genuinely helps is everything around those activities: getting from the parking area to the market, moving between the bakery and the picking areas, and not having to walk the whole property just to see what's available before deciding where to spend your energy.

Who typically rents for a trip like this?

We see a real mix. Grandparents who want to be part of a fall outing with grandkids but know a full afternoon on foot isn't realistic. Adults recovering from a recent surgery or procedure who still want to get outside instead of staying home. Visitors in town for a weekend who are combining a farm trip with seeing family. None of these are unusual requests — a farm visit is exactly the kind of outing where a scooter turns "let's skip it this year" into "let's go, we'll just take it a little slower."

How does delivery work for a day like this?

You tell us when you're headed out, and we deliver the scooter to your home or hotel ahead of time — fully charged, set up, with a quick walkthrough on the controls — so it's simply loaded up and ready when you leave for the farm. Scheduled delivery like this is free anywhere in our Greater Columbus service area, which includes Pataskala and the surrounding towns. If your plans come together last minute and you need the scooter delivered the same day your rental starts, that's available for a $20 fee, subject to availability.

What does it cost, and is there a deposit?

Ohio rentals start at $40/day for a 2-day rental — plenty for a farm trip plus a day on either side for delivery and pickup — and the per-day rate drops the longer you rent, down to $20/day for a 20-plus day rental. There's no deposit and no contract, and delivery, setup, and pickup are included in the rate for a scheduled delivery. The only add-on fees are $20 for same-day delivery and $20 for delivery or pickup in the 7–9 AM window.

Is SafeCare Rental connected to the farm itself?

No — we're a separate, independent, family-run rental company, not affiliated with or endorsed by Lynd's Fruit Farm. We just make it easier for people in the area, or visiting the area, to bring the right equipment along.
